NYnLON Review: A Taste of New York in Blackfriars

Blackfriars might not be the first place that springs to mind when planning dinner in London, but tucked inside Hyatt Regency London Blackfriars is NYnLON, a restaurant bringing a little New York character to the capital.

Taking its name from the two cities, NYnLON draws on New York’s love of hearty food and London’s dining culture, with a menu of familiar favourites, generous sharing dishes and bistro classics.

Although part of the five-star Hyatt Regency, the restaurant feels very much like a destination in its own right. There’s none of the formality you might expect from a luxury hotel restaurant. Instead, NYnLON offers a cosy setting, friendly service and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to settle in for the evening.

A Relaxed Spot in the City

Situated on New Bridge Street, just moments from Blackfriars station, NYnLON is well placed for anyone working in the City or looking for somewhere to meet after a day in central London.

The hotel itself occupies a historic site, once home to Henry VIII’s Bridewell Palace, although the restaurant’s character is distinctly more contemporary.

Inside, the atmosphere is warm and relaxed. It’s a comfortable space that feels separate from the hotel, with enough character to stand on its own. During our visit, the service was friendly and attentive, without feeling overly formal or intrusive.

It’s particularly well suited to an evening where good food and conversation take priority, whether that’s a business dinner, a catch-up with friends or a casual date night.

New York-Inspired Comfort Food

NYnLON’s menu takes inspiration from the food cultures of New York and London, bringing together American favourites, flame-grilled meats and a selection of lighter dishes.

Among its more distinctive offerings are the enormous 23-inch pizzas, freshly made and designed for sharing. The restaurant also serves a New York Little Italy menu at weekends, featuring pasta, burgers and other comforting classics.

For our visit, we opted for a selection of starters followed by steak, sides and dessert.

We began with the Polenta Chips, one of the chef’s signature dishes, served with aged Parmesan and truffle mayonnaise. Golden and crisp on the outside with a softer centre, they’re a lovely alternative to traditional chips. The truffle mayonnaise adds richness without overpowering the dish, making them an easy choice for the table.

Alongside these came the Paprika Fried Chicken Wings, accompanied by smoky chipotle and honey-mustard dips. A classic American favourite, the wings were a fitting start to the meal, with the dips adding plenty of flavour.

It’s the sort of menu that doesn’t require much deliberation. Familiar dishes, good portions and plenty of options for sharing.

Steak, Fries and a Glass of White

For mains, we chose the Aberdeen Angus Ribeye Steak, served alongside hand-cut fries and corn ribs.

The rib-eye is one of those dishes that feels right at home on a New York-inspired menu. Paired with a generous portion of fries, it’s a classic combination that rarely disappoints.

The corn ribs were a welcome addition, bringing a little sweetness to the table and offering something different alongside the steak.

There’s a simplicity to the food at NYnLON that works in its favour. The menu doesn’t try to reinvent familiar dishes, instead offering the kind of food that suits a relaxed evening out.

We accompanied dinner with the house white wine, although the drinks menu extends well beyond wine. There’s a selection of classic cocktails, beers, spirits and wines, making it just as suitable for an after-work drink as a full dinner.

Something Sweet to Finish

For dessert, we went for two classics: the New York Cheesecake and Banoffee Trifle.

The cheesecake is a fitting choice given the restaurant’s New York influences, with the familiar richness of a traditional baked cheesecake.

The Banoffee Trifle, meanwhile, combines banana, dulce de leche and a delicate feuillantine crunch, bringing together the flavours of the much-loved British dessert in a slightly different format.

Both desserts fit naturally with the rest of the menu, leaning towards familiar, comforting flavours rather than anything overly elaborate.

It’s a satisfying way to round off the evening, particularly after a hearty main course.

Why NYnLON Is Worth Visiting

One of the things that stood out most about NYnLON was how comfortable the whole experience felt.

Hotel restaurants can sometimes lack personality, particularly when they’re catering to a mix of guests and business travellers. NYnLON manages to avoid that, offering a setting that feels more like a neighbourhood restaurant than an extension of the hotel.

The atmosphere is relaxed, the service is welcoming and the menu has enough variety to suit different tastes. It’s also a convenient option for anyone working around Blackfriars, St Paul’s or the wider City of London.

Whether you’re meeting colleagues for dinner, catching up with friends or simply looking for somewhere cosy to spend an evening, NYnLON is an easy place to recommend.
