There was a time when Ibiza was the Balearic Islands’ ultimate insider secret. Then the world caught on. Today, those in search of a slower, more authentic Mediterranean experience are looking beyond Ibiza’s beach clubs and celebrity hotspots to its quieter sister island, Formentera. Now, a new retreat is giving travellers yet another reason to make the journey.
Rocalla Padel & Wellness Retreat, which opened this season on the island’s unspoilt southern coast, is positioning itself as one of Europe’s most exclusive wellness destinations. Combining luxury accommodation, world class padel coaching, recovery treatments and barefoot island living, Rocalla is tapping into two of travel’s fastest growing trends: wellness tourism and padel.
But unlike many sports retreats, Rocalla is not simply a place to play. It is designed as a complete reset.
The Mediterranean’s Most Stylish Padel Retreat
Padel has become one of the world’s fastest growing sports, attracting everyone from professional athletes and celebrities to luxury travellers looking for active holidays. According to the International Padel Federation, participation continues to surge across Europe, with Spain remaining the sport’s spiritual home. Rocalla takes that passion and elevates it into a fully immersive experience.
The retreat offers a carefully curated four day, three night programme designed to help guests disconnect from daily life and reconnect with themselves. Days are structured around expert led padel coaching, friendly matches and wellness sessions, creating a balance between movement, recovery and relaxation. Yet the appeal extends far beyond the courts.
As founder Pablo Carro, co founder of sports booking platform Playtomic, explains, Rocalla was created as a destination where guests can lose track of time.
“With Rocalla, I wanted to create a hidden gem within the raw beauty of Formentera. When you visit Rocalla, it’s a personal invitation into a holistic journey and a bohemian invitation to slow down.” That philosophy runs throughout every aspect of the retreat.

A Hidden Corner of Formentera
Part of Rocalla’s appeal is undoubtedly its location. Formentera remains one of the Mediterranean’s last truly laid back island destinations. Unlike neighbouring Ibiza, there is no airport. Visitors must arrive by ferry, a journey that immediately creates a sense of separation from everyday life. For many guests, that extra effort is precisely the point.
Nestled between Sant Francesc and Migjorn Beach, Rocalla occupies one of the island’s most beautiful and untouched settings. To one side lies Migjorn, a stretch of pristine coastline known for its crystal clear waters and protected natural landscapes. To the other sits Sant Francesc Xavier, Formentera’s charming capital, where whitewashed buildings, boutique shops and sun drenched cafés create a quintessential Mediterranean atmosphere.
The result is a retreat that feels wonderfully secluded while remaining connected to the island’s cultural heart.

Where to Stay
Accommodation is offered across two distinct properties, allowing guests to tailor their stay according to their travel style. Casbah Formentera delivers a boutique hotel experience, surrounded by gardens and immersed in nature. Meanwhile, Ses Eufabietes offers apartment style accommodation with a similarly tranquil atmosphere, making it ideal for longer stays or guests seeking additional privacy.
Both properties place guests within walking distance of the beach and offer access to swimming pools, gastronomic dining and the relaxed pace that has made Formentera such a coveted destination.
Wellness Beyond the Court
While padel may provide the initial draw, wellness sits at the centre of the Rocalla experience. The retreat incorporates recovery sessions designed to align body and mind, helping guests balance physical activity with restoration. Facilities currently include swimming pools, changing areas and dedicated wellness spaces, with saunas and ice baths already planned as part of future expansion.
The emphasis is not on high performance training camps or competitive intensity. Instead, Rocalla focuses on longevity, connection and mindful movement. It reflects a growing shift within luxury travel, where wellness is no longer confined to spas and detox programmes but integrated into every aspect of the guest experience.

Paradise in Play
The concept officially launched in late May with Paradise in Play, a two day opening celebration that attracted 90 guests from across the global travel, wellness and padel communities. Powered by David Beckham backed wellness brand IM8, the event welcomed industry leaders and founders from companies including WME Sports, Hexagon Cup, Dara Sports, Padel Social Club, VVV Sports and Pura Padel. Guests travelled from the UK, United States, Australia, Germany, France and Spain, offering an early indication of Rocalla’s international appeal.

Europe’s Next Wellness Hotspot?
Luxury travel is increasingly moving away from excess and towards experiences that feel meaningful, restorative and difficult to replicate.Rocalla understands that shift perfectly.
This is not another beach resort, sports academy or wellness retreat. Instead, it blends all three into a uniquely Formentera experience where mornings begin on the padel court, afternoons unfold beside turquoise waters and evenings are spent sharing Mediterranean meals under the stars. Harder to reach than Ibiza, quieter than Mallorca and more intimate than many established wellness resorts, Rocalla feels refreshingly undiscovered.
For travellers seeking the ultimate luxury padel retreat in Europe, this hidden corner of Formentera may well become the destination everyone is talking about next summer.
