There is a version of Ibiza that starts to emerge once August begins to fade.
The beach clubs are still open, the sea is still warm and the nights are still long, but the island feels easier. Tables are less frantic to book, afternoons stretch out a little longer and there is more reason to explore beyond the obvious summer circuit.
For a long weekend in September or October, Ibiza suddenly makes a lot of sense.
Start in Ibiza Town

The best way into the island is to keep the first day simple.
Marina Botafoch is close enough to Ibiza Town to dip in and out easily, but far enough from the centre to feel calmer. Mikasa Ibiza sits here, overlooking the marina towards Dalt Vila, with Talamanca Beach nearby.
It works well as a base if the plan is to mix beach days with evenings in town, rather than spending the whole trip moving between different parts of the island.
Start slowly. Coffee, breakfast, a walk around the marina, then head into Dalt Vila before the heat builds. September is still warm, but sightseeing no longer feels like something to get through as quickly as possible.
Give a whole afternoon to the beach

One of the benefits of travelling later in the season is that a beach day does not have to mean arriving early just to claim a spot.
At Beachouse Ibiza on Platja d’en Bossa, mornings begin with yoga on the sand before breakfast turns into lunch and lunch has a habit of becoming the rest of the afternoon.
By September, the pace suits it.
There is less urgency to move on, and cooler evenings make staying by the water for dinner far more appealing. Moonlit Dinners run on Friday and Saturday nights, while the final LUNAR gathering of the season takes place on 26 September.
Spend a day away from the coast

The Ibiza worth coming back for is not only the Ibiza beside the sea.
Drive inland and Santa Gertrudis feels like a different island altogether. The village is small, easy to wander and full of independent shops, galleries and cafés around its central square.
It is an easy place to lose an afternoon.
Finca La Plaza sits just off the square in a centuries-old finca, with a courtyard surrounded by palms and citrus trees. The menu changes with the season and leans into Mediterranean ingredients, charcoal and local produce.
It is exactly the sort of dinner that makes more sense once the heat has dropped a few degrees.
Save one night for the clubs
Ibiza does not suddenly stop partying when August ends.
September and October still bring major residencies and closing parties, and the advantage of travelling later is that nightlife can be part of the trip rather than the entire reason for it.
Chinois Ibiza continues into the autumn with nights from Defected, Claptone presents Masquerade, La Troya and Bedouin presents SAGA.
The ideal Ibiza itinerary at this time of year is not complicated: beach, lunch, a few hours doing very little, then a late night when the mood takes you.
Why go now
Shoulder season has become increasingly attractive across Europe, particularly as travellers move towards shorter four to six-night breaks.
Ibiza fits that shift almost perfectly.
You can see Dalt Vila, spend a day at the beach, head inland for dinner and still have a proper night out without needing a full week or the energy required to tackle peak summer.
September keeps most of what people go to Ibiza for and strips away some of the effort.
For anyone who has only ever known the island in July or August, that might be reason enough to go back.
