Whether you’re chasing a personal best, ticking off a bucket-list race, or stepping into a new season of running, this guide highlights the standout events to help you plan, train and line up with confidence.
Winter: Fast Starts & Frozen Extremes
The year begins with speed in the city. On 17 January, the Newcastle 10K launches the season as the first major road-closed race of 2026. Set along the iconic Quayside, its flat, fast route offers genuine PB potential, with two waves catering to both competitive and first-time runners.
Just weeks later, on 1 February, the Warwick Half Marathon provides an ideal early-season goal. Starting and finishing at Warwick Racecourse, the closed-road course blends historic town streets with gentle countryside, supported by warm crowds.
For runners drawn to the extreme, winter also hosts the Ice Ultra by Beyond the Ultimate (17–23 February). This 230km self-sufficient race across Swedish Lapland pushes athletes through snowfields, frozen lakes and Arctic tundra, with temperatures plunging to –40°C — a true test of endurance and resolve.

Spring: Classic Races & Fresh Challenges
Spring sees the return of much-loved favourites. The Wolverhampton 10K on 29 March starts and finishes inside Molineux Stadium, delivering a unique atmosphere and a fast course that’s earned its place on the running calendar.
April brings two standout events. The London Landmarks Half Marathon on 12 April showcases the capital’s most famous sights — from Big Ben to St Paul’s Cathedral — combining culture, history and electric crowds. Later in the month, on 26 April, the Shakespeare Marathon invites runners to Stratford-upon-Avon, blending historic streets with rolling Warwickshire countryside and a touch of literary charm.
Spring also marks the start of ultra season with the Highland Ultra by Beyond the Ultimate (28 April–1 May). Set in the remote Knoydart Peninsula, this 125km coastal mountain challenge delivers rugged ascents, sweeping glens and vast sea lochs in one of Scotland’s most untamed regions.

Summer: Speed, Sun & Big Atmosphere
Summer racing begins with something a little different. The Colchester Zoo 10K on 17 May offers a unique route through one of the UK’s most popular zoos, creating a fun, high-energy event for runners and spectators alike.
The AJ Bell Great Manchester Run follows on 31 May, bringing tens of thousands of runners to the streets for both 10K and half marathon distances. With live music, entertainment zones and a festival atmosphere, it’s one of the UK’s most iconic city races.
Mid-summer speed comes courtesy of Chase The Sun on 12 August at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. With flat, fast 5K and 10K routes set in inspiring Olympic surroundings, it’s perfect for chasing quick times.

Autumn: Iconic Events & Ultimate Endurance
Autumn opens with the AJ Bell Great North Run Weekend from 11–13 September. The world’s largest half marathon leads the programme, supported by 5K, junior and mini races, all powered by legendary Geordie crowd support and televised live on the BBC.
Later in September, from 25–27 September, trail runners head to the Lake District for the Altra 13 Valleys Ultra. With distances ranging from 22km to a formidable 180km, this race celebrates the region’s 13 valleys and ranks among the toughest endurance challenges in the UK.
The UK road season draws to a close with the AJ Bell Great South Run on 17–18 October. Offering a 5K and a 10-mile race along Portsmouth’s scenic seafront, it’s fast, flat and ideal for runners of all abilities.
For a truly purpose-driven finale, the For Rangers Ultra by Beyond the Ultimate (7–11, 2026) takes runners on a 230km, multi-stage journey through Kenya’s wild heart. From vast savannahs and rugged bushland to remote wildlife conservancies, competitors face relentless heat, demanding terrain and the raw beauty of Africa’s wilderness. Created in support of Save the Rhino and the rangers who protect endangered wildlife, this race delivers one of the most powerful tests of endurance on the planet, physically, mentally and emotionally.
