An Interview with Jesper Ståhl: The Scandinavian Founder Redefining Hydration with SALTE
Hydration has become one of wellness culture’s most crowded conversations. Powders, drops, tablets and performance blends promise more energy, faster recovery and sharper focus. Yet for all the noise, many people still feel under-hydrated, flat, or unsure what their body actually needs. SALTE enters this space quietly, with a distinctly Scandinavian approach rooted in balance, function and restraint.
Founded in 2024 by a group of friends in Scandinavia, SALTE was created as a cleaner, more effective alternative to traditional sports drinks. Its signature electrolyte formula combines sodium, potassium and magnesium in a carefully calibrated ratio designed to reflect real physiological needs. No sugar. No fillers. No exaggerated claims. We sat down with Jesper Ståhl, co-founder of SALTE, to talk about simplicity, trust and why hydration should feel supportive rather than overwhelming.
Do you remember the moment you first thought hydration should not be this complicated?

It was not one specific moment, more a pattern over time. I was doing the right things, training, eating well, staying active, yet I still felt flat at times. Most hydration products I tried came with things I did not want, fillers, sugar, unnecessary ingredients. I remember thinking hydration should be simple, supportive and easy to trust.
Before SALTE existed as a brand, what felt missing for you personally?
I was missing something I could use every day without questioning it. I wanted hydration that fit into real life, not just training sessions or extreme situations. Something clean, well balanced and consistent, without unnecessary ingredients and without needing to add calories to the routine. There was not a product that truly felt like that, so we decided to build it ourselves.
A lot of electrolyte products feel very intense and performance-led. SALTE feels calmer. Was that a conscious choice?
Yes, very much so. We do not see hydration as something reserved for athletes or extreme performance. It is an everyday need. SALTE was designed for daily life, work, travel, movement and recovery. The format is convenient, the taste is mild and natural, and nothing feels overdone. Hydration should support your day, not take it over.
How early on did you know what you did not want SALTE to be?

It was clear from the start that we did not want to build something loud, sugary or overcomplicated. We wanted to avoid unnecessary ingredients and exaggerated performance claims. Knowing what we did not want made it much easier to stay focused on building something simple, honest and useful every day.
The brand feels very considered visually. How important was it for SALTE to look like something people would actually want to live with?
It was very important. We come from a Scandinavian approach to design where clean, minimal expression serves a purpose. SALTE is meant to fit naturally into everyday life, not stand out or compete for attention. The goal was to reduce noise and create something people feel comfortable using every day.
Has building SALTE changed how you listen to your body day to day?
Yes. Hearing customer feedback and reading people’s experiences has reinforced how much hydration quietly affects energy, focus and everyday wellbeing. It has made me more attentive to those signals in my own day as well.
What has been the biggest surprise for you as a founder?
How strongly people respond when something genuinely fits into their daily life. We did not expect the level of trust, repeat use and word of mouth so early on. It confirmed that keeping things simple and intentional resonates more than trying to do too much.
Was there a point where you seriously questioned whether this would work?
Not really. The idea and the product always made sense to us. What surprised me more was the pace, how quickly we went from concept to something people were actually using and responding to. That speed created its own challenges, but it also confirmed we were building something relevant.
Wellness culture can feel overwhelming right now. What do you think people misunderstand about hydration?
Many people approach hydration reactively instead of proactively. They wait until they feel tired, flat or depleted. At the same time, a lot of what we drink today is not truly hydrating, coffee, energy drinks, sweetened beverages. Hydration works best when it is simple, consistent and part of everyday routines, not something you try to fix after the fact.
When you picture someone using SALTE, what does their real life actually look like?

It is very diverse. There is not one type of user. Just people living real lives who want hydration that fits naturally into their day, without friction or overthinking.
The Final Word
Listening to Jesper Ståhl speak, it becomes clear that SALTE is not about optimisation or extremes. It is about trust. Trust in ingredients, in design and in the quiet impact of doing one thing well. In a wellness landscape that often equates effectiveness with intensity, SALTE offers an alternative rooted in balance and clarity.
Perhaps that is why it resonates. Not because it promises transformation, but because it removes barriers. Hydration, as SALTE sees it, is not a performance tool or a lifestyle statement. It is a daily foundation. Simple, functional and designed to support life as it actually unfolds.
