How the Hospitality Industry Inspired London’s First Sustainable Spin Studio:
Meet Celeste, Founder of Revolt Cycling
For Celeste, the journey to launching London’s first sustainable spin studio began far from the fitness world. Armed with a master’s degree in hospitality, her career took her across the globe – from Switzerland to Hong Kong to Texas – immersing her in the operations of some of the world’s most renowned luxury hotels.
It was there, behind the scenes of five-star hospitality, that she discovered a growing fascination with sustainability practices and just how much further the industry still had to go.
“I realised there’s still an immense journey ahead when it comes to truly sustainable operations,” she recalls. “So I asked myself: How can I build a company that has sustainability at its very foundation?”
Her answer was both simple and innovative:
Energy-generating exercise.

Blending her passion for fitness with her commitment to environmental change, Celeste created Revolt Cycling, a spin studio where every ride helps generate electricity. Having had early conversations with Energym, a UK-based engineering company, and the opportunity to view their early prototypes, Revolt Cycling developed bespoke bikes that convert pedal power into usable energy,
But the studio’s sustainability story doesn’t stop with the bikes. From eco-friendly paint on the walls to recycled materials used throughout the furniture and fit-out, every design decision reflects the brand’s core ethos: build the most sustainable space possible.
How did the hospitality industry spark this idea?

“I’ve had the privilege of working with iconic hotels, including the Mandarin Oriental, and one thing became clear: hotels are masters at using a captive audience,” Celeste explains. “Think about the free drinks in the minibar — they’re always the brands they want you to discover.”
This insight inspired her to design Revolt Cycling not only as a workout destination but as a space for community, education, and meaningful conversations.
“While sustainability sits at the heart of everything I do, I also wanted a place where people could gather, learn, and grow together,” she says. “That’s why having a generous lounge area was non-negotiable. Revolt isn’t just a studio — it’s a hub for community, forward thinking, and shared learning around such an important topic.”
What sets Revolt Cycling apart from other spin studios in London?

“I’ve done extensive research on what makes a great spin class,” Celeste laughs. “Wherever I travel, I wake up at 5am and try a local studio before my day starts. It’s become a ritual.”
Having received spin instructor training herself, she knows that while sustainability draws curiosity, the quality of the class is what keeps riders coming back.
“As much as sustainability guides everything I do, that alone doesn’t sell an exercise class — excellence does. From bringing in highly experienced instructors to refining our lighting and designing a powerful soundtrack, every detail has been curated. People are guaranteed a great class.”
She also emphasises that Revolt Cycling goes beyond spin:
“We offer Pilates and yoga too, for those seeking lower-impact options.”
What advice would you give to someone trying to live more sustainably or build a sustainability-led business?

“It’s about progress, not perfection,” Celeste says without hesitation.
“If I tried to build the most sustainable spin studio in the world, it would probably never open. You have to make consistent choices in the right direction instead of waiting to achieve perfection.”
