Frites Atelier Opens First UK Restaurant in Soho, London

Soho has a new late-night food destination, and it’s putting fries firmly in the spotlight. Frites Atelier, the gourmet Dutch frites concept founded by three-time Michelin-star chef Sergio Herman, has officially opened its first UK restaurant at 34 Old Compton Street.

Known across the Netherlands and Belgium for transforming humble fries into a luxury fast-casual experience, the brand arrives in London with a bold mission: to show Brits what fries can really be.

What’s on the Menu at Frites Atelier Soho?

At the heart of the Soho menu are four indulgent Frites Specials, each showcasing bold flavours and premium ingredients:

  • Flemish Beef Stew – rich, slow-cooked and deeply savoury
  • Parmesan & Basil – aromatic, bright and indulgent
  • Sea Nori – spicy, crispy and umami-packed
  • Cheddar Supreme – a seasonal special for serious cheese lovers

No order is complete without sauce, and Frites Atelier delivers with a line-up that includes Truffle, Andalouse, Béarnaise, Basil Mayo, plus additional house classics.

Drinks, Cocktails and Late-Night Vibes

Frites Atelier Soho isn’t just about fries. A carefully curated drinks list features beer, wine and cocktails including espresso martinis and spicy margaritas, making it just as appealing for late-night drinks as it is for comfort food cravings.

Who Are Frites Atelier?

Following London’s growing obsession with mono-menu concepts, Frites Atelier brings a fresh evolution of the trend: Dutch frites as the hero dish.

In the Netherlands and Belgium, fries aren’t a side — they’re a cultural institution. Served generously, always sauced and crafted with precision, Dutch frites paved the way for today’s loaded-fries craze long before it became fashionable.

Frites Atelier combines craftsmanship, culinary innovation and hospitality expertise to elevate the potato into something truly special. Each location is thoughtfully designed to reflect that philosophy, redefining what fries can be.

What Makes Dutch Frites Different?

Dutch frites are famous for their golden, ultra-crisp exterior and soft, cloud-light centre. At Frites Atelier, that perfection comes from hand-selected potato varieties, a proprietary oil blend and a meticulous double-cooking method developed by Sergio Herman and his team.

As Herman puts it:

“The Dutch have been obsessed with frites for generations. We turned them into a craft long before loaded fries became a trend. Brits think they know chips, but usually only when they’re next to fish. In the Netherlands, fries stand on their own — and at Frites Atelier we show exactly what that means: quality, creativity and care.”

A New Late-Night Food Spot in Soho

Already beloved across the Netherlands and Belgium, Frites Atelier’s London debut introduces the capital to fries done properly: crispy, golden and full of character. It’s fast-casual dining with a luxury edge — and Soho feels like the perfect home.

The London opening is delivered in partnership with Giraudi Group and Apollo and Daphne, bringing one of Europe’s most celebrated fry concepts to the heart of the West End.
