Eat Here: Donny’s Deli Opens in London Fields

There’s a new place to eat, drink and hang out in London Fields, and it’s already making waves. Donny’s Deli — a neighbourhood breakfast-through-late-night spot — has officially opened its doors, serving up a menu that celebrates East London’s best local suppliers, good vibes, and the shared energy of food and music culture. Donny’s Deli is the latest venture from Simon Bays, reimagining his original Donny’s project with a new focus on community and cultural respect. The space blends retro interiors (think red and white tiling, warm orange wood, terrazzo floors) with a vinyl exchange wall, where guests can bring and swap records — a playful nod to the area’s creative heartbeat.

Soundtracks come courtesy of East London DJs, bringing Simon’s nightlife roots into daylight. The result? A deli that feels as much like a community hangout as a café or restaurant.

The Menu

Helming the food is Auckland-born sandwich master Huri Rapana Neil (Hero Sandwich House, The Marquee Moon). His menu is a love letter to bold flavours and high-quality ingredients, sourced locally from E5 Bakehouse, Hill & Szrok, Uncle Hon’s BBQ, Fin & Flounder, and Flying Horse Roastery.

Daytime favourites include:

  • 🥪 Big Brisket – Txuleta steak smoked for 16 hours by Uncle Hon, with dijon mustard and swiss cheese.

  • 🍗 Chicken Salad Sandwich – complete with chicken skin crackling and a gravy dip.

  • 🍆 Aubergine Frites Sandwich – with garlic toum and romesco sauce.

  • 🌯 Donny’s Doner – marinated chicken thigh with pineapple chilli, garlic yoghurt, pickles, salad and feta.

Breakfast runs daily, starring the McDonny’s Breakfast Muffin (scrambled eggs, cheese, confit onion, maple burger sauce) and fried eggs on E5 Bakehouse sourdough topped with Hill & Szrok bacon or Fin & Flounder trout.

If you’ve got room for something sweet, don’t skip dessert — the PBJ Brûléed French Toast and bread and pistachio cream pudding are fast becoming local legends. At its heart, Donny’s Deli is about giving back. £1 from every kebab sold goes to Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP), while £500 worth of sandwich and coffee vouchers are donated monthly to support vulnerable locals. The Donny’s Club also keeps good coffee affordable, offering locals a cup for under £1.
