A New Collaboration: Hibiki x Hiroshi Senju

Where whisky meets art: Hibiki and  Japanese painter Hiroshi Senju join forces in a rare expression of harmony, beauty, and craftsmanship.

A Tribute to Artistry and Nature

This autumn, The House of Suntory unveils a collaboration between its iconic blended Japanese whisky, Hibiki, and esteemed contemporary artist Hiroshi Senju. The partnership celebrates a shared reverence for nature, balance, and Japanese mastery, resulting in two limited-edition releases — the Hibiki 21-Year-Old and Hibiki 30-Year-Old — presented in an artful collector’s display.

Both editions are housed in presentation boxes transformed by Senju’s delicate hand, turning each into a work of art in its own right. The collaboration reimagines the connection between whisky, art, and the natural world, embodying Hibiki’s philosophy of “The Harmony That Breathes.”

Hiroshi Senju’s ‘Waterfall on Colors: Hibiki’

The partnership is centred on Senju’s painting ‘Waterfall on Colors: Hibiki’, a monumental artwork that captures the rhythm and fluidity of nature through ten shades of purple — hues inspired by Kokimurasaki, the deep violet gradient that represents Hibiki’s noble character.

Senju’s creative process is rooted in nature itself: filling canvases with water, combining hokaimatsu (natural marble powder), and allowing colour to flow freely across the surface, echoing the movement of cascading water. This meditative technique reflects both Japanese tradition and modern abstraction, bridging the ancient and the contemporary — much like Hibiki’s own philosophy of balance.

Design That Embodies Harmony

For the Hibiki 21-Year-Old, Senju’s waterfall motif adorns both the label and presentation box, perfectly complementing the whisky’s graceful equilibrium.

The Hibiki 30-Year-Old edition is conceived as a true collector’s piece, presented in a byōbu-style display — a traditional Japanese multi-panel screen. The crystal bottle sits atop a reflective base, framed by an etched Hibiki emblem and a delicate waterfall wrap at the neck. Together, they embody the Japanese ideal of ‘Miyabi’, or refined elegance, inviting collectors to experience whisky as both art and ritual.

The Artist Behind the Collaboration

Hiroshi Senju is among Japan’s most celebrated living artists, renowned for his luminous waterfall paintings and ability to merge Eastern philosophy with Western technique. His works are held in prestigious institutions including the V&A Museum in London, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Hiroshi Senju Museum in Karuizawa, Japan.

Recipient of numerous accolades — including the Honourable Mention Award at the Venice Biennale and Japan’s Foreign Minister’s Commendation — Senju’s art honours both nature’s vitality and its stillness. His collaboration with Hibiki marks a meeting of craftsmanship and contemplation, echoing the timeless relationship between Japanese art and spirit.

A Symphony of Flavour: The Hibiki Experience

Hibiki 21-Year-Old
A blend of exceptional maturity and poise, the 21-Year-Old offers notes of honeycomb, sandalwood, and dried apricot, layered with the subtle incense of Mizunara oak. Its finish is long, elegant, and endlessly evolving — the embodiment of balance.

Hibiki 30-Year-Old
The pinnacle of the collection, the 30-Year-Old delivers an opulent, resonant journey through brown sugar, dried fig, gingerbread, and apricot jam, underpinned by the warmth of Mizunara oak and a gentle trace of cinnamon. A whisky of remarkable depth and enduring grace.
